Careless Driving - What Is It?
This is a very broad charge used in a number of different situations. It is defined as operating a mechanically propelled vehicle without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road. Usually this is a charge that will be used if a vehicle has been involved in a collision. This charge is widely open to interpretation, which makes it one of the most common charges laid in traffic incidents. What are the penalties?
- 6 demerit points off your licence
- A fine of no less than $402 and no more than $2000 + 15% surcharge
- A possible suspension of your licence
- A possible term of imprisonment for up to 6 months
